About the Author
Richard Byerly is a seasoned Certified Public Accountant who brings a unique, real-world perspective to tax planning and wealth preservation. Born and raised in Arlington, Texas, Richard earned his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington. He then spent 25 years navigating the intense financial complexities of the healthcare industry, while sharpening his tax expertise preparing returns part-time. Navigating corporate healthcare taught him firsthand how easily the average person can get buried in complex, indifferent systems—an insight that ultimately inspired him to break away from the corporate ladder.
Â
In 2010, Richard took that wealth of experience and launched his own CPA firm, intentionally specializing in the unique tax demands of the chiropractic industry. After successfully building the practice into a thriving business, he chose to sell the firm to dedicate his energy entirely to advanced tax strategy. The decision to sell was fueled by a clear realization: while many professionals focus on historical tax filing, seniors are the most underserved, targeted demographic when it comes to forward-looking tax planning.
Â
As a senior himself, Richard has a deep, personal understanding of the financial landscape facing retirees. He is passionate about partnering with seniors to defuse hidden IRS liabilities and map out predictable, low-tax futures. When he isn’t playing active offense against the tax code, Richard can be found on the golf course, catching college sports, or working in his garden.

Testimonials
"Finally, a financial guide that doesn't put me to sleep or feel like it's trying to sell me something I don't need. This book reads like a conversation with a knowledgeable neighbor who genuinely wants to help you protect what you worked for. Before I read this book, I was planning to quitclaim my house to the kids to make things easier for them after I died. I didn't know that it would create a huge capital gains tax bill for them when they went to sell."

Small Business Owner
"As a financial advisor, I see one issue overlooked far too often in retirement planning: taxes. Most investors spend decades focused on accumulating wealth but give surprisingly little thought to forecasting and managing what may become one of their largest lifetime expenses—taxes in retirement. This book addresses that problem by helping readers think more strategically about how they distribute and use the wealth they have accumulated. Thoughtful tax planning can potentially mean less money unnecessarily lost to taxes and more money available to spend, save, or share with the people and causes that matter most."Â
Blake H
Financial Advisor
"I retired at 62 thinking my main goal was just to keep my reported income as close to zero as possible. This book completely changed my thinking on that. The concept of the tax bracket valley was a huge eye opener. It makes so much sense to pay a little bit now instead of getting slammed with huge RMDs in my 70s. I took this to my financial advisor and we developed a plan to start converting my traditional IRAs into ROTH IRAs."
